Stiebel Eltron partners with HomePro to launch WS ECO, an eco-friendly water heater Made with 45% PCR plastic, aiming to tackle e-waste sustainably
Bangkok, 19 November 2024 — Stiebel Eltron is pushing forward with sustainable water solutions in response to Thai customers’ growing demand for eco-friendly products. The company has launched the WS ECO water heater, crafted with 45% PCR plastic sourced from old electrical appliances through HomePro’s “Trade-In for a Better Life” campaign. This model, produced with advanced manufacturing technology, efficiently tackles Thailand’s Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) issue, combining convenience and safety in a vintage green design at an accessible starting price of 3,890 baht. It is now available at all HomePro, MegaHome branches and HomePro Online.
Roland Hoehn, Managing Director of Stiebel Eltron Asia Company Limited, stated “Electronic waste, especially WEEE, is a significant environmental concern in Thailand, with approximately 2,760 tons generated annually. Often disposed of via incineration or landfilling, this waste poses severe risks to humans and the environment. However, when properly managed, it can be recycled into new products, adding value while aligning with the rising environmental and sustainability consciousness of Thai consumers. A recent survey by Mahidol University reveals that 74% of consumers lean towards sustainable products. Recognising this, Stiebel Eltron and HomePro, with joint commitment to sustainable business practices, have joined forces to address e-waste in WEEE effectively.”
Sangsak Sorakit, Senior Vice President of Electric & Water Solutions Merchandising Group at Home Product Center Public Company Limited (HomePro), added “HomePro places great importance on forging partnerships with like-minded organisations to drive the development and promotion of initiatives that sustainably reduce environmental impact. Our goal is to deliver products that meet market demands while addressing key environmental challenges, particularly the management of WEEE. As a leader in home solutions with a deep connection to consumers, HomePro recognises the challenges customers face when replacing old appliances, including uncertainty about proper disposal methods and the costs of transportation and dismantling. This led to the initiation of the ‘Trade-In for a better life’ campaign. Customers can trade old appliances to HomePro and MegaHome branches nationwide, where they will be dismantled by certified professionals, before sending to the smelter. These materials are then transformed into new products for maximum utility. This initiative fosters collaboration between all stakeholders, including customers and partners, to raise awareness and encourage environmental stewardship. It also adds value to brands participating in the program. By 2030, HomePro aims for 20% of total product sales from Circular Products, underscoring our commitment to sustainability.”
The latest CLOUD water filter from STIEBEL ELTRON boasts efficient filtration technology from Germany, featuring a special characteristic that allows it to filter water through five stages using five filter cartridges. This ensures clean, refreshing drinking water. The advanced Ultrafiltration (UF) technology can eliminate bacteria and small particles down to 0.01 microns with up to 100% efficiency, without any waste water. It also incorporates silver ions that help to keep the filtered water twice as clean, along with an Activated Carbon Block that helps to reduce unpleasant tastes and odors, chlorine, Trihalomethanes (TTHMs), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and heavy metals such as lead, copper, aluminum, selenium, zinc, and iron excellently.
The CLOUD water filter is designed for easy use, eliminating the need for electricity and water storage tanks. It also simplifies the process of swapping filters with a "pull and push" system, negating the need for professional assistance and additional tools during replacement. Capable of meeting all requirements with its modern design, the device can be installed either under the sink or mounted on the wall, fitting seamlessly into any kitchen design.
Under the collaboration, old appliances collected through HomePro’s Better Life initiative are dismantled. Extracted plastic are processed into high-quality PCR plastic pellets following international standards, which are then delivered to Stiebel Eltron to be manufactured into the WS ECO water heater. Leveraging German manufacturing technology, the WS ECO is crafted with up to 45% PCR plastic. This partnership between two leading brands promotes the circular economy and drives tangible environmental sustainability. Within 2024, Stiebel Eltron aims to produce 6,000 units of the WS ECO model, effectively managing 2,760 kilograms of WEEE plastic, the equivalent of planting over 600 trees and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 5,796 kilograms annually.
In addition to being environmentally friendly, the WS ECO water heater boasts rapid and accurate heating performance, just like other models in the WS Series. It features a durable copper tank resistant to corrosion, ensuring a long lifespan, and includes a 5-in-1 showerhead with an adjustable rail for a comfortable showering experience. Safety is paramount, with a dual-layer thermostat to prevent scalding, an ELSD system for automatic electrical cut-off, and IP25 safety certification. The stylish vintage design Jade Grey enhances any bathroom interior.
